From the Lilas gate to the Belleville metro station, this commercial and busy street is the heart and soul of this legendary quartier, both working class and cosmopolitan and, today it is in fashion. It is the Belleville of «Ma pomme» by Maurice Chevalier, and of the «môme Piaf» who was born on 19th December 1915 on the steps of the house at No. 72, and which is used as the backdrop for the contemporary adventures of the «Malaussène gang» by Daniel Pennac.
