Without the 25km-long, 8m-high dike that surrounds it, the island of Pellworm would disappear at each high tide. The sheep that graze on the dikes are just as much a part of the landscape as the Frisian cattle ruminating in the meadows. The island's main attraction is the ruined bell tower of the old Church of St Saviour (11C-12C).
