Praktische informatie

Beschrijving

Sitting on a bluff overlooking the harbor, this simple, white-frame house-one of the oldest in Port Townsend-was completed in 1868 for D.C.H. Rothschild, a German immigrant who became a prosperous merchant. Mrs. Rothschild's restored herb garden is planted near the small back-entry porch; an open porch with an expansive harbor view spans the front. The virtually unchanged interior contains original family furniture and memorabilia. The first-floor dining room and parlor retain their original wallpaper; the hand-grained woodwork throughout the house was the work of Chinese artisans. Three upstairs bedrooms can also be seen. Occupied by the Rothschild family for nearly a century, the house was given to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission (and became Washington's smallest state park) in 1959. The flower garden behind the house contains many old varieties of peonies, roses and lilacs.
