Calle 5 de Mayo leads north from the Zócalo. Lined with many shops, it is always packed and very lively. It also boasts several buildings that might appeal to you: on the Zócalo side, the (17C) Church of Santo Domingo, and higher up, at the corner of Avenida 18 Poniente, the convent of Santa Monica containing a Museum of Religious Art.
