Located west of downtown, Fan District is a lively neighbourhood named after the pattern formed by its streets. It has a large number of restored 19C townhouses and cafes, as well as the campus of the University of the Commonwealth of Virginia. If you want to get to downtown Richmond, take Monument Avenue, which is lined with statues of Virginia's Confederate heroes. West of Fan District, Carytown is home to shops, antique shops and restaurants.
