This mythical stadium was the scene of Pelé's legendary 1000th goal. Its original capacity - almost 200 000 seats - was reduced to around 74 000 when major renovation works were carried out ahead of the 2014 Football World Cup (during which it hosted several matches, including the final) and the 2016 Summer Olympics. It remains one of the largest stadiums in the world. It is also a concert venue graced by international stars.
