Pilgrims flock to this church to revere the chains that supposedly bound St Peter in Jerusalem and later in Rome... Art lovers come here too, to see the famous Moses sculpted in Carrara marble by Michelangelo. It was originally destined for a monumental mausoleum designed for Pope Julius II. This grandiose commission was never fully executed; Michelangelo only produced the slaves (now in Paris and Florence) and the colossal Moses.
