Historians estimate that the Domus Aurea (at that time situated right in the centre of Rome) once covered an area of around 60-80 hectares (twice the size of the Vatican). Today just a small part of this building remains (150 rooms nonetheless) which is divided into two wings. A certain amount of imagination is needed to grasp the extent and wealth of this building, especially in the areas under restoration.
