Housed in the Palace of the New Residence (17C) on Mozart Square, this fine museum charts the history of Salzburg. For example, its major figures, among whom, the alchemist Paracelse (1493-1541) and the Sattlers (Salzburg artists). The myths and legends of the city are examined and there is a fine collection of musical instruments. Finally, you will see the works of Gottfried Salzmann, a local artist born in 1943. Temporary exhibitions complete the tour.
