Beschrijving

The city's first cathedral, a handsome red-brick building wedged in between modern high-rises and Chinese-inspired pagodas, was built in 1854 with Chinese labour. Although it was gutted by fire, Old St Mary's Cathedral nonetheless survived the earthquake of 1906. If you're looking for somewhere to get away from the noise of the city, the cathedral hosts 30min concerts of classical music at 12.30pm on Tuesdays (programme available at the cathedral and on its website).
