The Barranco del Valle del Rey is an impressive ravine, and one of the most spectacular on La Gomera; at the bottom, the houses of the village of the same name are built in tiers. At the foot of the dizzyingly steep rock faces, the valley nurtures plantations of papaya and avocado trees. Here and there, the bougainvillaea deploys its dazzling red or pink flowers.
