Crossed by a long spine of mountains, the largest of the Canary Islands is spread out at the foot of El Teide, a volcano peaking at 3 718m and the star of a national park that is very popular with hikers. The main gateway to the archipelago, it is worth spending at least three days on Tenerife for it to reveal all of its splendours.
