The road winding north of La Palma is lined with laurel bushes and pine trees and climbs up to one of the most important astrophysical observatories in the world (2 396m). From the summit, El Roque de Los Muchachos, looking south you can see the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente, the town of Los Llanos de Aridane, the mountains of La Palma, and the island of El Hierro; to the east is El Teide and the island of La Gomera.
