Established in 1908, Ocala National Forest is one of the oldest national forests east of the Mississippi. Encompassing some 432,000 acres of wetlands, timber and scrub, dotted with freshwater lakes and springs, the forest stretches for about 60mi from southern Marion County up to Lake Ocklawaha.
