Famous for its tin deposits and white pepper plantations, the paradisiac beaches of Belitung Island are only an hour's flight from Jakarta. It is impossible to try and resist the long stretches of white sand, dotted with granite boulders lapped by a turquoise sea! However, don't take too long making your decision, because tourist developments are springing up fast and the mines and palm oil plantations have already damaged part of the primeval forest.
