Presiding over the town, Cathedral Hill is a haven of calm. Left over after the ravages of history, the fine brick ruins of the cathedral stand in the middle of a park, which makes an ideal spot for a romantic stroll. A restored section of the building now houses the University of Tartu. Visitors may encounter a professor or two in the university history museum (in the chancel of a cathedral that was partially rebuilt in the early 19C).
