This castle is the largest fortified castle of Vendée. Its scandalous owner, Gilles de Rais, is said to have inspired the ogre of Charles Perrault's tale, Blue Beard. It is however a hit with young and old alike who enjoy exploring the ruins, firmly built on a rocky outcrop, and its array of medieval war machines that transport the visitor back to the Middle Ages. In the training camp, you might want to try your hand at archery or crossbow shooting!
