In the university district of Trnava, this is the first cathedral of the early Baroque period to have been built in the country. Its construction began in 1629, initially under the direction of architects Antonio and Pietro Spazzo. The interior is covered with stucco and gilding. The impressive wooden high altar, built in 1640, is decorated with no fewer than 27 statues.
