It is above Villavicencio that this road of hairpin bends (caracoles meaning snails) wends its way over some 15km, its 365 breathtaking turns coming thick and fast. The Ruta de los Caracoles crosses the Sierra de Uspallata and its summits covered with short grass, offering a panoramic view over the valley of Mendoza. It reaches its highest point at the Paramillos Cross (3 100m). Follow the road in the direction Uspallata-Mendoza to get the adrenaline pumping.
