The sanctuary of Notre-Dame-des-Miracles, a place of pilgrimage and rebuilt in 1806, was founded in 850 by Spanish and Portuguese mariners who wanted to show their gratitude to the Virgin Mary for having saved them from shipwreck by guiding them with a star. Later on, miraculous healings took place here. The interior is adorned in ex-votos from grateful pilgrims. The five-pointed star that crowns the Madonna is made out of marine animal fossils (similar to sea urchins) found on the site.
