Beschrijving

The Romanesque chapel of Vallauris castle houses Picasso's masterpiece War and Peace (1952). This powerful composition consists of two panels facing one another. Black dominates the first panel, which depicts invaders trampling over symbols of civilisation, such as justice (scales) and peace (a dove). In an explosion of bright colours, the second panel portrays people working and enjoying innocent pleasures. The end panel, Les Quatre Parties du monde, symbolises fraternity between the races.
