On the far side of the wide Canale di San Pietro, the former island of Olivolo, now known as San Pietro, is little visited by tourists and, as a result, is a great place to experience everyday Venetian life. Take a relaxing stroll around the district, making your way past the floating market on Fondamenta San Gioacchino and along Via Garibaldi for a fine view of the Salute church. The island is also home to Venice's first cathedral, San Pietro di Castello.
