This small, 5km2 expanse of Andean forest serves as a study terrain for botanists and zoologists. Its slopes, rivers and waterfalls are home to a large variety of butterflies, birds and mammals, including mountain tapirs and spectacled bears, as well as rare plants such as the emblematic wax palm and all sorts of bromeliads and orchids.
