The Old Town is one of Warsaw's finest architectural triumphs, but above all it is a poignant reminder of the desire of the Polish people to regain their lost honour following on from the Second World War. Completely destroyed, it has been meticulously rebuilt based on records and documents from the 18C. This unprecedented project resulted in its granting of World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 1980.
