On a hill dominating the valley of the Thur, Ittingen Charterhouse (1152) stands in the heart of an estate of flourishing vineyards. No longer inhabited by monks, it has a new vocation under the aegis of an active foundation. It has been meticulously restored, with its galleries and cellars now housing two museums, a hotel, a market, a restaurant and seminar rooms. But the masterpiece of this former monastery remains the Baroque church, with stunningly exuberant decor.
