Beschrijving

This 54m-high column by architect Eloi Labarre (1764-1833) was erected to commemorate Napoleon's camp in Boulogne, where he gathered his army in 1803 in the hope of invading England. A staircase of 256 steps takes you to the square platform. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of the Boulonnais countryside and, in fine weather, of the English cliffs. At the entrance to the site, the modest Musée de la Légion d'Honneur is devoted to Napoleon and the Legion of Honour, but also touches on the history of the column.
