The Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos Town boasts a rich collection of icons, religious paintings illustrating the post-Byzantine art of the Ionian islands and, most notably, wooden iconostases from the 17C to the 19C from the island's churches that were destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1953.
