The area around Chang Mai in Northern Thailand is home to numerous mountain tribes, each of which has its own customs, arts and crafts and colourful costumes. The Hmong, Lahu, Karen, Yao and Lissu ethnic groups provide the region with a rich cultural mosaic that is highlighted in this extremely well-documented ethnography museum. If you're hoping to see these tribes at close quarters, take a trip into the surrounding mountains or head further north-west towards Mae Hong Son.
