Spreckels Mansion, with colonnades and sculpted pediments, is one of the finest private residences on the San Francisco coast. Built in 1913 by a sugar cane planter, it has 26 bathrooms and a swimming pool. Today it is the home of author Danielle Steel, best known for her romantic fiction.
